Course overview

This course develops the incident command and scene-safety skills needed to run — or safely support — a multi-unit response, from initial size-up through termination.

Most incident command failures aren't a knowledge gap — they're a breakdown in how command actually gets exercised under stress on a real, chaotic scene. We spend real time on that gap: mayday procedures, accountability under pressure, and the safety officer's authority to actually stop something that's going wrong.

Both, depending on what your department needs. Many groups start with tabletop command scenarios and add a field exercise once the fundamentals are solid.

Is this appropriate for a volunteer department?

Yes — we adjust pacing and scenario complexity for volunteer schedules and staffing realities rather than assuming a career-department roster.
